The French Revolution of 1789 was a momentous turning point not only for France but perhaps for the world. In this class we will explore the period between 1660 and 1815 which includes the period of enlightenment. the French Revolution and Napoleonic years. We will explore the following topics: Why did the French Revolution begin? When did it end? How did the final rupture with the "ancient regime" occur? The Reign of Terror. The life of Napoleon Bonaparte and his ascension to power.
