HIST311 - History of Art

Understanding art helps us to understand history, culture and societal changes. In this class we will cover art from its very beginning as portrayed in prehistoric cave drawings of animals and the hunt for food. We will also cover Eastern and Western Antiquity, Egyptian art, Indus Valley art, Chinese art, Greek and Roman art, Medieval period, Gothic,Renaissance, Neoclassic, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Early 20th century, Art Nouveau, Cubism, Surrealism and Contemporary art. We will see examples of art and briefly discuss major artists that led each individual movement.
